Harper lived from 1922-2007 and used simple geometric shapes, patterns, and vivid colors in his work, a style he defined as “minimal realism”. Harper created more than 50 posters for parks, conservation areas and natural areas around the US. "The Desert" was one of ten commissions by the National Park Service for park specific posters. This work features diverse flora and fauna of the desert ecosystem, many of them living in a saguaro cactus, in Harper's own style. "The Desert" is a bright, intricate and detailed puzzle full of surprises.
