Where Stonehenge's giant bluestones come from? Was the fall of the Roman Empire hastened by lead poisoning? How did amber get from the Baltic to Belize? In exploring these and other historical enigmas, Joseph Lambert expertly details the rich insights into ancient life that chemistry alone can provide. Using cutting-edge scientific methods such as radiocarbon dating, DNA analysis, and elemental fingerprinting, acclaimed chemist Joseph Lambert expertly details the rich insights into ancient life that chemistry alone can provide. He shows, for example, how investigators today can determine the diet of prehistoric Europeans, the geographical origin of the marble in a Greek statue, or the reason why the Liberty Bell cracked. He uses nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to reconstruct ancient trade routes, and X-ray diffraction, among other methods, to compare the color palettes of the Mesopotamians and Egyptians (the latter were apparently much more flamboyant). He explains how chemical analysis of DNA can be used to sort out human lineages and migratory patterns-demographic trends that affected, in turn, everything from language to the spread of disease. Chemistry takes center stage in this fascinating book, proving that it is not just an analyst of culture, it stands as one of its primary creators. Lambert offers us a unique glimpse into a form of technical progress hitherto unappreciated: the ever-increasing ingenuity of the Human race, as seen through the prism of its evolving chemical sophistication. We discover how primitive chemistry was initially used by ancient people as a tool to improve their daily lives, a feat that was achieved by reworking molecules of clay into pottery and minerals into metal alloys, and by turning grains into beer and pitch into sealants. By documenting the way ancient people manipulated their environment chemically, Lambert further refines the distinguishing feature of our species. Early humans were more than tool-makers. They were molecular transformers.

Not My Favorite
Size: X-Large, Color: (401) Team Royal / / Black
I am on the fence with this product. I generally love Under Armour clothing, and the color is great. It fits well, too. But this sports bra has removable pads in it, and when I went to wash it, they got all turned around. The way you take out the pads and put them back in is pretty narrow, so it’s kind of hard to do. So I tried stitching them in place, but that didn’t work, they still got lumpy. Finally I just pulled them out and I use the sports bra without the padding. I suppose I should’ve just pulled the padding out each time I washed it, but it seems to me they need washing too? I don’t think I would buy this again.

By far the best 1/4 pull over zip I have ever bought - 5 stars
This is the most comfortable and best looking pullover 1/4 zip I have ever bought. It looks really good on me and it is super soft, but not too soft that it looks cheap. I did not get hot in it and I get hot easy in long sleeves. It breaths well and yet also kept me from a chilly breeze. The collar is one of the best I have ever found for a pull over like this as it does not poke me and it stays upright and looks very sharp. The only thing about it is that I had to put it in my steam dryer and then hang upside down to dry overnight as it had a few wrinkles in it when it came. So it is not 1,000% wrinkle free, but after wearing it half a day it did not wrinkle at all. As long as you keep it on a long wooden hanger I do not think it will wrinkle. If you dont have long wooden hangers thought, since it is a tad heavy, the shoulders I think would get bumps hanging a long time in the closet on a short hanger (like all long sleeve shirts with a little weight like this would). I got this one as it was I thought the most masculine color match. I would love to see this in other colors and keep everything else the same. I love the inner collar pattern design as it gives it a nice look. I am 5'11" and about 230 lbs and it fit me in a XL perfect. I have broad shoulder and bigger chest and a bit of a dad bod, so I wanted something that is not baggy nor snug on my mid area (so I don't look fat). This is the perfect length too, it is long enough it won't come up if I reach up and show my stomach, and long enough to be a tag long in the back, but short enough that it doesn't look too long. All in all, this size and fit was perfect for me. My style is I want to look good but I have to be comfortable and that is not the easiest to do, but this with some nice pants (of any kind) is a really sharp look and comfortable.
